The Motagua
The biography of a river - from cloud to coast, from history to hope.
Before roads. Before cities. Before borders.
She was here.
For thousands of years the Motagua River has flowed from the Guatemalan Highlands to the Caribbean Sea.
She has nourished forests.
Fed communities.
Connected cultures.
Shaped history.
Carried jade.
Created life.
Today she carries something very different.
Yet beneath everything…
She remains the same river.
Still flowing. Still giving.
Still waiting for humanity to remember who she has always been.
Our mission is not to create a new river.
Our mission is simply to help her become herself again.

A Journey Down the River
01 - The Source
She begins high in the western highlands of Guatemala - cold, clear and unhurried.
A gathering of mountain streams that will one day become one of Central America's greatest rivers.
02 - The First People
For centuries, Indigenous families have lived alongside her - Maya, Poqomchi', Q'eqchi' - cultures shaped by her rhythms.
She has fed them, guided them and carried their stories from one generation to the next.
03 - The Living River
Along her banks, forests still hum with life - jaguars, tapirs, macaws, morpho butterflies.
A river is never only water. She is habitat, corridor and shelter.
04 - The Valley
As she widens into the valley, she becomes the artery of Guatemala's food system.
Fields of coffee, bananas, cardamom and corn depend on her every day.
05 - The Confluence
Near the capital, she meets the Las Vacas - a tributary carrying the weight of a city.
It is here that her burden begins to grow heaviest.
06 - The Burden
Millions of tonnes of waste enter her waters each year.
She carries what we have refused to. Yet even now, beneath the plastic, she is still the same river.
07 - The Sea
At last she arrives - releasing herself into the Caribbean Sea at the Gulf of Honduras.
A journey of nearly 500 kilometres, from cloud to coast.
08 - The Reef
Beyond her mouth lies the second-largest coral reef system on Earth.
What she carries reaches the reef. What she heals will heal it too.
09 - The Future
Her story is not finished.
The next chapter - the greatest chapter - is the one we choose to write with her.

Still flowing. Still giving.
